Full course description
Workplace etiquette and professionalism
Workplace etiquette is about more than good manners. It shapes how colleagues communicate, share spaces, manage boundaries and represent their organisation. This section looks at the behaviours that contribute to a respectful and professional working environment, including courtesy, punctuality, consideration and appropriate conduct.
Communicating professionally
Clear communication runs throughout the course, from choosing the right tone and communication channel to active listening, body language and giving or receiving feedback. Attention is also given to situations where communication can be misunderstood, including cultural differences, individual preferences and different approaches to eye contact.
Respect, personal space and inclusion
Every workplace brings together people with different cultures, boundaries, needs and ways of communicating. Learners are encouraged to consider personal space, confidentiality, shared resources and professional relationships, alongside accessibility, disability and neurodiversity. The emphasis is on avoiding assumptions and creating an environment where colleagues feel respected and able to work comfortably.
Etiquette in the modern workplace
Professional standards apply just as much online as they do face to face. Practical guidance covers emails and workplace messaging, virtual meetings, social media and the responsible use of technology, including privacy and confidentiality. There is also guidance on welcoming visitors and behaving considerately in shared offices and communal spaces.
Maintaining positive workplace standards
Small lapses in workplace etiquette can gradually affect relationships, morale and the wider working environment. The final part of the course considers common examples of poor etiquette and how concerns can be addressed constructively. For managers and team leaders, this includes setting clear expectations, modelling appropriate behaviour and responding when standards begin to deteriorate.
Assessment and certification
At the end of the course, you will complete an assessment to demonstrate your understanding. You will need to achieve a result of 80% or higher to pass. On successful completion, you will receive a downloadable certificate.
Professional responsibility and scope
This course is designed to support knowledge and understanding but does not in itself confirm competence.
- Competency should be assessed within your workplace
- Practice should align with local protocols, current guidance, and professional standards
- You are responsible for applying learning appropriately within your role
Average time to complete
Approximately 2-3 hours, depending on your prior knowledge and experience. The course is fully self-paced, allowing you to complete it in stages. You can revisit any sections that you’re unsure of.
