Welcome to the GP Healthcare Alliance’s Process and Preparation of Death & DNACPR in Primary Care course.

Estimated Completion Time: 1 Hour

This course is designed for any staff members who will be working within the health sector in a clinical role. The aim of this training is for the learner to be able to understand the terminology and general processes of preparing for death and DNACPR, as required by your workplace. You will always adhere to your workplace protocols; gain an understanding of what you will need to do and why, maintaining professional practices throughout. All guidelines provided in the Lessons of this course are correct and current at the time of writing. You will need to ensure that you follow any updated guidelines and work protocols within your practice.

It would be beneficial to have a note pad at the ready, but please do not worry if you have not, there are downloadable files for your reference! Some of the tables and examples provided have not got audio support as they will be included in the PDF at the end of each lesson, which can be increased in size within this format if needed.

Some terminology used within this course can sound harsh, which is not intentional and of course, as professionals we are always aware of the delicacy involved with people’s conditions, their lives and indeed the friends and family that they have. This course is very emotive, if you feel affected by any of the content then please ensure that you make contact with your Supervisor/Line Manager and discuss any help or support that you might need, that they can provide you with.

Course overview:

  • Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA)

We will explore what a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) is, why a patient might need one and what it involves.

  • PEACE & ReSPECT

We will consider what PEACE and ReSPECT are and what considerations may be needed when creating them.

  • Verifying Life Extinct

We will look at the abbreviation and who can verify life extinct; consider the clinical methods that can be used to verify it, which as mentioned before is correct at the time of writing this course, therefore you will need to follow your workplace guidance and Protocols.

  • An Understanding of ROLE and Death Certification

We will explore terminology/meanings of ROLE and Death certification, what it involves and who can process these within Primary Care.

  • Completing a DNACPR form

We will discover what information you will require to complete a DNACPR form and see what one of these looks like.

  • Additional useful information.

We have provided additional information that you may wish to explore online.

  • End of course assessment.

This is where you will be able to show off all the information that you have learnt, there is quite a lot, so making notes would benefit you for a quick recap! You will need a pass rate of 80% or more to pass and be able to obtain your certificate, which can be downloaded and printed.
