Welcome to the GP Healthcare Alliance’s Care Navigator course.

The aim of this course is to provide a deeper understanding of what ill health is, how it can impact upon people, their attitudes and how to help them whilst providing a caring approach towards them within the UK and might take up to an hour to complete.

This course provides some examples of what could occur in a stressful situation, how to demonstrate that you are listening and have understood the situation and can help to provide a good outcome to the discussions/situations, whilst being aware of your surroundings.

We will look at :

  • What could ill health look like

You will explore the definition of health and contemplate how all aspects of ill health can impact on a person’s Mental Health, including how being apprehensive can be a trigger for poor mental health.

  • Additional stress factors

You will learn how the body and mind reacts to stress, as well as some statistical details regarding disabilities and poor mental health and how this can affect life chances and experiences.

  • Having a helpful approach

You will understand the power of a friendly ‘can do’ approach, together with how to help the patient feel valued and most importantly listened to.

You will also explore why inclusivity and diversity is essential to consider in every aspect of your work.

  • Etiquette (Telephone and face-to-face)

You will learn about the importance of good etiquette and how this can breed a mutual respect and understanding and how transparency aids trust and belief! There are also some examples that demonstrate how this can happen.

  • Considering Mental Health within the workplace

You will learn about the Mental Health Continuum and how being proactive rather than reactive will hopefully help make your working environment a lot less stressful, encouraging supportiveness and kindness.

  • End of course assessment.

This is where you will be able to show off all the information that you have learnt, there is quite a lot, so making notes would benefit you for a quick recap! You will need a pass rate of 80% or more to pass and obtain your certificate, which will be downloadable once you have completed it.

You will always adhere to your workplace protocols; gain an understanding of what you will need to do and why, maintaining professional practices throughout. All guidelines provided in the lessons within this course are correct and current at the time of writing. You will need to ensure that you follow any updated guidelines and work protocols within your practice and area, being considerate of this throughout the course.

It would be beneficial to have a note pad at the ready, but please do not worry if you have not, there are downloadable files for your reference! Some of the tables and examples provided have not got audio support as they will be included in the PDF at the end of each lesson, which can be increased in size within this format if needed for eye comfort.
